Rent a Forest:
You can play a crucial role in the preservation and restoration of Madagascar's rainforests. You could help to protect the rich flora and fauna of the island, most of which is found nowhere else on our planet (80 percent of the animal and plant species in Madagascar are endemic).
The rainforest is currently shrinking at a rate of 200,000 hectares each year and there is a lot of work to be done to reverse this trend.
Deforestation has already led to the extinction of many unique plants and animals and many invaluable species are increasingly under threat. Ultimately we will all lose if this trend continues.
Madagascar is a poor and isolated country without the means to tackle this potential environmental devastation alone. Despite efforts to date, little has been offered as a real alternative to current farming methods which destroy the rainforests.
has one small solution, perhaps the beginning of the end of deforestation in Madagascar. You can rent a patch of Vohibola forest. At the same time we will send you news on the sight, so that you know what effect your contributions are having.
The more people who choose to rent-a-forest, the more resources can be poured into the development of environmentally friendly projects, which will bring value to the rainforest and in the long-term save its plants and animals from extinction.
How to rent an hectare of forest for its conservation.
The Vohibola forest has been separated into hectares and 1/25th of hectare. Each parcel can be rented for (U.S.)
* $50 per year,
* $200 for 5 years,
* $350 for 10 years and
* $600 for 20 years.
The money is used for developement and conservation programs with the local people of the two villages around the island.We have set up a special fund to try to aquire more land for conservation.
If you wish to to contribute $1.00 or more, SunRose will match the donation. When $50.00 is accumulated, we will send a wire off to MATE. To kick off this program, SunRose has already donated $200.00, which is a 5 year donation.
